ANNOUNCED! ‘The Last Story’ release set for Summer 2012!

February 22nd, 2012 by stephen | 1 Comment | Filed in News

Finally, Nintendo has announced that they will be releasing  ’The Last Story’ on American shores in the Summer of 2012! Operation Rainfall and their followers have been working extremely hard to get ‘The Last Story’ here in America, and they’ve succeeded! With the help of publishers Xseed, we will be able to play ‘The Last Story’ here in America!

‘The Last Story’ is created by Hironobu Sakaguchi. Sakaguchi is credited with creating a little game series you might know by the name ‘Final Fantasy’.

Hironobu Sakaguchi had left Square to create his own gaming studio, Mistwalker. Mistwalker has released the games ‘Blue Dragon’ and ‘Lost Odyssey’ and gained popularity from doing a great job with these games. With ‘The Last Story’, it looks like Sakaguchi is getting back to the root of his ‘Final Fantasy’ days. The game looks amazing, and the ratings for the Japanese version have been phenomenal.  With Europe getting a release date first, it was fully translated into English, so Nintendo of America had no excuse not to bring it here!

I had spoken with the co-leader of Operation Rainfall a little while back now. You can read the interview here.

If you haven’t heard about ‘The Last Story’, be sure to check it out! Be careful for spoilers!!!! The game has been released in Japan and some people might have the story or plot translated online. It looks amazing, and I can’t wait to get my hands on this game. Leave some comments and discuss about why you’re excited for ‘The Last Story’!

My relatively spoiler free thoughts on Skyward Sword

February 19th, 2012 by becky | Comments Off | Filed in Article

This morning I finally beat Skyward Sword. I have been obsessed with this game to the point of actually feeling guilty if I play something else instead. Finishing it feels like beating a good game should feel – like I finished a long, difficult quest and am reading to take a rest. And I, like the dorky gamer I am, also feel proud of myself for restoring order and saving the world and Master Sword and Triforce and all that jazz.

Mario Partying!

February 3rd, 2012 by stephen | Comments Off | Filed in Article

Do you consider yourself a Party Person? Would you rather hang out at a party, or challenge three of your friends to small, random tasks in order to gain “stars” to see who will reign as champion? Do you suffer from hideous scars on the palms of your hands from excessive virtual boat rowing? If you answered yes to that last question, you might be a victim of Mario Partying!

So Colorful. So FUN!

So Colorful. So FUN!

Mario Party 9 is coming up fast! It will be here this year on March 11th. It brings more of that fun mini-game action to us digital thrill-seekers in this second Mario Party installment for the Wii. This time, it looks like your characters have to put their differences aside and complete the map together on some kind of vehicle. But fret not! There are plenty of chances to face your foes in the mini games.

The problem I see with the Mario Party series is that they make you wait so long to get the older version! Except for the first game, no one else has been interested in Mario Party games. So dropping down the money for the full price for a new Mario Party is a bit pointless when you’re playing it alone. Mario Party 8 is still 45 bucks at GameStop. Aside from getting it on eBay, it’s still pretty expensive to get just to try out the fun mini-games.

I know people spend a lot of money each year on sports games like Madden or FIFA, just to purchase almost the same game the following year. But unfortunately, I love playing games for the story. It’s just not my desire to purchase a variation of a game that was already released. Then again, I do play the Super Mario series. Ah well. I’ll play Mario Party when I have a party to play with me.

Review: Mario Kart 7

January 21st, 2012 by becky | Comments Off | Filed in Review

Graphics: 3, Gameplay: 4, Story: 1, Fun: 4, Controls: 3, Replay: 3 It was a totally unprecedented Christmas in my family, because Chris, my mom, my brother, and I all received Mario Kart 7 from someone else. It ended up being a really crazy “Wait, who are you giving it to again? I’m giving a copy to X so you should give your copy to Y” maze of Santa chaos. So two days after Christmas, we all gathered around with our DSs in hand, and after playing a practical joke on my mom (“Mom, you have to be within two feet of us for the 3DS wireless play to work”), we played.

If you’ve played any Mario Kart, you pretty much know how Mario Karts work. Even if you have no idea, it’s still pretty easy. It’s one of those “simple to learn, hard to master” games, and once you’ve conquered power sliding, it becomes a matter of learning the courses to exploit short cuts and stuff. Anyway, so there we were, playing, and you will never guess what happened next. (more…)
